The azure waters of the Waimea Estuary swirl past a wharf that once bustled with coastal scows loading wooden boxes of apples. The old fruit coolstores have been converted into galleries, boutique design stores sell local arts and imported homewares, cafés serve coffee and local food and wine, there’s a craft brewery – something for everyone in the family!

  • Even the dining is eclectic. Fish and chips on the wharf is a treat enjoyed by locals, or try the finer fare at the cafes, and keep an eye out for Hamish the resident white heron. Sample a freshly brewed local beer at the wharf too!
  • Take the short stroll to the Mapua Village for more tasty café fare and freshly baked goodies, and boutique shopping in the Mall.
  • If you’re visiting at Easter don’t miss the famous Mapua Easter Fair with craftspeople, artists and artisan food producers from all over New Zealand.
